Energy to the max as Dehaye gets ready for Spa EWC action

FIM Endurance World Championship rider Geoffroy Dehaye will start the 24H SPA EWC Motos with his energy levels at maximum.

Dehaye endured the frustration of missing out on racing in the 24 Heures Motos last month after a qualifying fall prevented him from setting a competitive lap time and stopped him from taking part in the twice-round-the-clock event.

But the Motobox Kremer Racing rider has already moved on from that setback with a top 10 finish in the Formula EWC category his target when the FIM Endurance World Championship heads to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium next month (16-18 June).

“I am very, very determined to do my best, this is a big part of my life,” the 34-year-old Frenchman said. “I lose [out on racing at] Le Mans but I keep my energy and I want to do everything that’s possible at Spa to show how I can ride.

“I love endurance, it’s my love, before I did sprint racing, but I love the spirit of endurance, racing with your team-mates. I know what is difficult about endurance and I have been ready for Spa for about one month. I have all my energy to use and now I am focused on Spa because Le Mans is behind me.

“Of course it’s difficult when I think about that race, it makes me sad, but at least it was only my heart that was injured. Now I am focused on Spa where the top 10 in EWC, for sure, and the top 15 overall, I hope, are my objectives.”

Dehaye made his debut on the 6.985-kilometre Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps last season and can’t wait to make his return to the iconic venue.

“It’s a very, very exciting track,” said Dehaye. “Last year was the first time but all the riders like this track. It’s a famous track, it’s like a mountain course, very fast and long, the Raidillon is so famous, my favourite corner in the world.

“Spa is a little bit hard at night because it’s so dark but it’s the same for all riders and we have to deal with this. But I love this track, I enjoy a lot to ride there, especially when you are at fifth gear in full throttle.”
